On February 21, 2017 Union Furnace welcomed representatives from Ghana, Nigeria, and Uganda to share a bit of their cultures with our students for our 2nd annual "Cultural Day".  Students learned about customs, religion, food, language, and leisure activities amongst much more. For example, students learned how in the Ugandan culture, names are decided based upon a variety of factors including the day of the week. There will be NO SCHOOL @ Union Furnace Elementary on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 due to Water Line Maintenance (the school will be without water). Union Furnace Elem. will be in session Thursday, February 16, 2017 but under a boil order. Drinking water will be provided, however, please feel free to send a water bottle with your child.
On Thursday, February 2, Union Furnace Elementary recognized the Students of the Month for the months of December and January. Union Furnace Elementary held their annual Family Literacy Night on Thursday, January 19. This year, the school featured some new twists to the already great event. One change was that the school offered a spaghetti dinner prior to the start of the night. Also new to the evening was a silent dessert auction which garnered great participation. Union Furnace Elementary recently completed their holiday "Fur-raiser" called, "Claus for Paws". Students were encouraged to bring in various items that could be donated to the Hocking County Dog Pound. The event was organized and ran by the school's student council, under the leadership of the co-advisors, Ashley Sutton and Mallory Troiano. On Thursday, December 1, 2016, Union Furnace Elementary recognized 26 students, chosen by the staff, as Student of the Month award recipients for the months of October and November. Meeting the Accelerated Reader (AR) goal for a grading period is an outstanding accomplishment. Point levels are set with enough challenge that each student should be able to meet their goal by the end of a given grading period. However, going 4 times past the goal is truly remarkable! Today we recognized two Union Furnace students, Mackenzie Garraway and Rozalin White for doing just that....quadrupling their AR goals! Roz finished with 42 AR points and Mackenzie with 48 points respectively...
Due to a water break, Union Furnace Elementary will be closed today, Friday, November 4, 2016.
Union Furnace Elementary will host their annual yard sale this Saturday, May 7 from 9-2. We are accepting donations throughout the week. Anyone wishing to sell their own items should contact Mr. Novar by Friday. Spaces are $10. We hope to see many Logan families join us on the lawn outside UF this Saturday. Thank you for your support!
Students at Union Furnace Elementary were treated to a special pizza lunch this past Thursday, January 14 for quadrupling their Accelerated Reader goals during the previous grading period. Congratulations to Rachel Bauers (3rd grade), Samantha Pennington (1st grade) and Clayton Cordle (1st grade) on reaching this outstanding level.
