Logan High School
Submitted by: Shelly Riggs/Dani Bell

After winning the Logan High School contest, Gracie Miller competed this past Saturday in a regional competition of Poetry Out Loud at Stuart's Opera House in Nelsonville, Ohio. Miller was chosen as one, of two, representatives from the region to attend the State contest on March 8th, in Columbus, Ohio. Miller presented the poems The Bait, by Eric Chock, and Candles, by Carl Dennis.

Poetry Out Loud is a national poetry recitation contest. Competitors choose poems from the poetryoutloud.org website, and prepare them for contests that begin in the classroom. Poetry Out Loud encourages students to learn about great poetry through memorization and recitation. This program helps students master public speaking skills, build self-confidence, and learn about literary history and contemporary life.

The state competition begins at 5pm on March 8th in the King Arts Complex, and is free and open to the public.
